Disclosure first. QuickEstimate publishes this article, and we sell Quickest Solar CRM, one of the two products compared here. That makes us a biased reviewer. To limit the damage, every Bigin fact below comes from Zoho's own Bigin pages, each linked and read on 31 October 2026. Where a page is silent we write "not on the pages we read", not "cannot". We did not open a Bigin account for this article, so nothing here comes from our own testing of Bigin. Both products are judged on the same three lines of one bill, Bigin's real strengths come first, and Quickest's gaps are listed as plainly as its strengths.

If you tried Zoho Bigin for your solar business, you probably started for a good reason. It is cheap, it is made by a large Indian software company, and Zoho says setup takes about 30 minutes. For a salon or a tuition centre that may be true. This guide asks a narrower question: what does it take to make Bigin run an installer's week, from the first enquiry to the net-metering file, and where do its published limits start to bite?

Bigin is a separate, smaller product from Zoho CRM, and the two have different free plans: Bigin Free is for 1 user, while Zoho's own comparison PDF lists Zoho CRM Free for 3 users. Our dated comparison with Zoho CRM covers the bigger one. Earlier posts cover LeadSquared, TeleCRM and HubSpot's free CRM.

Key takeaway. Zoho Bigin is a real, low-cost CRM: ₹400 per user a month on yearly billing, a free plan for one user, and WhatsApp and quote-document tools on paid plans. For solar, you build the rest. Zoho's pages mention no solar fields, no PM Surya Ghar subsidy and no ready solar quote layout, and a typical list of 14 solar fields already passes the Express cap of 10. Add up the Setup Bill before you buy.

Zoho Bigin for solar: what it does well

Bigin does several things well for a small team, and some are things Quickest does not claim. All of this is from Zoho's own pages.

  • Rupee prices and a free plan. On Zoho's Bigin pricing page the India view shows Free at ₹0 for one user, Express at ₹400 per user per month on yearly billing, Premier at ₹720 and Bigin 360 at ₹1,080. Local taxes, including GST, are charged on top.
  • A refund window and cancel-anytime terms. The same page offers a full refund within 30 days of a monthly plan or 45 days of an annual plan, and says you can cancel whenever you want.
  • Real pipelines. Express gives 3 team pipelines, Premier 5 and Bigin 360 15, with up to 25 stages in each sub-pipeline, per Zoho's feature availability page.
  • WhatsApp inside the record. Zoho's home page FAQ says the integration lets you send messages, receive replies and track conversation history against each contact or deal.
  • Lead ads and 2,000 apps. The pricing page lists Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok lead-ads integration on Express, and the home page FAQ says Bigin reaches 2,000 more apps through Zapier.
  • A route to a quote document. Merge templates with Zoho Writer are, per Zoho's help article, available for all Bigin editions, and estimates can be created through Zoho Invoice or Zoho Books on Express and above.
  • A checklist per stage. Premier lists Stage Transition Rules, "a checklist to ensure a systematic way of completing tasks and collecting data", and Zoho's availability page says they can make users fill specific fields before a record moves to a stage.
  • Help with the move in. Paid plans include a free onboarding session and import assistance, and single-click migration from Pipedrive, HubSpot, Insightly and Zoho CRM, per Zoho's pricing FAQ.
  • Phone apps and Hindi. Bigin has iOS and Android apps with call logging and a business-card scanner, and Zoho's pricing FAQ lists Hindi among its 28 languages.

Now the other side. None of the Bigin pages we read mention solar, kW sizing, the PM Surya Ghar subsidy or DISCOM approval steps. That is normal for a general CRM, and it means every solar detail is yours to set up. The rest of this article puts that cost in rupees.

The Setup Bill: three lines every installer pays on a general CRM

The Setup Bill is our name for everything you pay to make a general CRM do an installer's whole job. We split it into three lines, because the price page only shows the first one.

  1. 1

    Line 1, Licence

The rupees on the price page, multiplied by your users and 12 months. This is the line everyone compares.

  2. 2

    Line 2, Build

The fields, stages, rules and templates someone on your team must design, checked against the vendor's published caps. Time spent here is not on the price page, and neither are the caps that force a dearer plan.

  3. 3

    Line 3, Plumbing

The extra tools and connections a rep needs before a normal task is finished, such as a quote that reaches the customer or a WhatsApp message that is logged. Each can mean another account and another thing to keep working.

Zoho says Bigin "gets you running in about 30 minutes" but not what those minutes cover. We read it as the generic part of Line 2 and test the solar part below.

Worked once, illustrative. Take a three-person team, an owner and two reps. Assume 20 hours of your admin's time to build fields, stages and templates, 10 hours to wire up a quote and WhatsApp, and ₹500 an hour for that time. The hours are made up, so use your own. Licence on Express is ₹14,400 for the year, and Build plus Plumbing is ₹15,000, so year one is about ₹29,400 before tax. If your fields force Premier, Licence is ₹25,920 and year one is about ₹40,920.

We publish no setup hours for Quickest, so we claim none. The afternoon test near the end lets you measure both.

Line 1, Licence: what Bigin costs in rupees

Bigin's paid plans are priced per user per month, and yearly billing is cheaper. We read the rupee view of Zoho's Bigin pricing page on 31 October 2026. The page picks its currency from the visitor's country, so we loaded it as a visitor in India sees it. Zoho's own price data file shows the same rupee numbers.

The next table adds up one year for three users on yearly billing, before tax, and sets the Quickest plans beside it on the same basis.

PlanPriceThree users, one yearCaps that matterBest for
Bigin Free₹0, 1 user₹0500 records, 1 pipeline, 3 automationsOne person testing a CRM
Bigin Express₹400 per user per month, yearly₹14,40010 fields per pipeline, 3 team pipelines, 50,000 records, WhatsApp messagingA small team whose solar fields fit in 10
Bigin Premier₹720 per user per month, yearly₹25,92025 fields per pipeline, 5 team pipelines, 100,000 records, stage rulesA team that wants more fields and stage checklists
Bigin 360₹1,080 per user per month, yearly₹38,88050 fields per pipeline, 15 team pipelines, 1 million recordsA larger team with many pipelines
Quickest Free₹0, 1 user₹010 proposals a monthOne installer testing a real proposal
Quickest Pro₹6,999 per user per year, 3 users minimum₹20,997Solar workflow fixed, not designed by youA team of 3 or more that wants solar built in

Three things stand out. Bigin Express is cheaper than Quickest Pro on licence alone, by ₹6,597 a year for three users. Once your fields force Premier, the order flips: ₹25,920 is ₹4,923 above Quickest Pro. And Bigin Free is one user, so a team needs a paid plan from the second person. Quickest Pro has a 3-user minimum and yearly billing only, a real constraint for a two-person shop.

Zoho's page lists Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal, plus bank transfer and cheque for annual plans, but not UPI. We do not state Quickest's payment methods here, so check its pricing page before you decide.

Line 2, Build: fields, records and paid help

Build is where a general CRM costs you time, and where Bigin's published caps decide which plan you need. Three jobs matter for an installer.

Custom fields: the cap that decides your plan

For solar, the first build job is custom fields, and Bigin caps them by plan. Per Zoho's feature availability page, pipeline custom fields are 5 per team pipeline on Free, 10 on Express, 25 on Premier and 50 on Bigin 360. Other modules, such as contacts, list 10, 25 and 50 per module on the paid plans. Zoho's own Bigin versus Zoho CRM comparison PDF (last updated 21 August 2026) shows the same per-module figures and lists no custom modules for any Bigin edition.

How many fields does a solar deal need? The list below is our illustrative one, not a Zoho or Quickest template. We did not check which of these Bigin ships as standard fields, so some may cost you nothing.

GroupFields a solar team usually wantsRunning count
SiteSystem size in kWp, roof type, roof area, single or three phase4
Bill and utilityAverage monthly bill, DISCOM, consumer number, sanctioned load8
Subsidy and approvalsSubsidy route, portal application number, net-metering status11
Survey and financeSite survey date, assigned surveyor, finance mode (cash or loan)14

On this list, Free runs out at field 5, partway through the bill and utility group. Express runs out at field 10, partway through the subsidy and approval fields. Only Premier at 25 holds all 14, with room to spare. That is the Build line pushing you to a dearer licence, and nothing on the price page warns you.

Count your own fields before you open Bigin, and split them into deal fields and contact fields, because Zoho counts pipeline and module fields separately. If your deal list is 10 or fewer, Express may be enough.

Stages are less of a problem. Bigin allows 25 per sub-pipeline in every edition, and Zoho's team pipelines page says pipelines and sub-pipelines can be customised at every stage. Our solar pipeline stages guide has a starting list that fits well inside 25. Requiring a field before a deal moves stage is a control many teams want before a file goes to the DISCOM. Zoho's feature availability page describes Stage Transition Rules as rules that "mandate users to fill specific fields when they try to move a record to a specific stage", and the pricing page lists them under Premier, not Express. If you need that control, price Premier.

The same line on Quickest. Quickest does not ask you to design fields. The solar workflow is fixed, with customisable lead stages, labels, filters and follow-up reminders. That is the saving, and it is also the limit: we do not claim custom fields or custom modules, so a field Quickest lacks is a field you cannot add. Our CRM customisation guide covers how much a solar team needs.

The record counter that counts every call

Bigin's record limit counts more than leads. Per Zoho's record storage help page, a record is "a new row of information added to any of the below modules": Contacts, Companies, Pipelines, Activities, Products and Notes. Every logged call, task and note uses one. Deleted records sit in the Recycle Bin and still count until you empty it. The limits are 500 on Free, 50,000 on Express and 100,000 on Premier, and extra records cost $1 a month per 10,000, the currency Zoho's help page shows.

Worked once, illustrative. Assume each lead creates 1 contact, 1 pipeline record, 6 logged activities and 2 notes. That is 10 records per lead. Free's 500 records then hold about 50 leads, so an installer with 40 enquiries a month fills it in just over a month. Express's 50,000 records hold about 5,000 leads. The 10 records per lead are our assumption; log fewer activities and the numbers stretch.

Imports hit the same wall. Per Zoho's limits table, Free imports 250 records per batch and Express 10,000. A sheet of 1,200 old leads, imported as a contact and a pipeline record each, is about 2,400 records, nearly five times Free's cap. Zoho's import page says you can undo an import for 30 days.

The same line on Quickest. We publish no per-lead record count here. Quickest supports bulk import from Excel, and its plan limits sit on its pricing page. If you plan to bring in thousands of old leads, ask for the limit in writing.

Paying someone else to build it

Zoho sells setup help, which shows that the Build line is real work. Zoho's Jumpstart page describes a paid onboarding service where "a dedicated expert" handles setup and customisation of profiles, roles, pipelines, custom fields, dashboards, workflow rules, email templates and forms. The price shown is a "one-time payment of $500", with no rupee price on the page. Limits vary by plan, "any additional configuration, apart from the limits mentioned here, will be billed separately", and "data migration does not fall under the scope" of the program.

If you have an admin who enjoys building, Bigin's free onboarding and help articles may be enough. If not, budget for paid help and get a written list of what it covers. Our solar CRM pricing guide explains what to ask any vendor. Older posts about CRM setup costs, including some of ours, quote figures we have not verified, so use your own quotes.

Line 3, Plumbing: the quote, WhatsApp and lead sources

Plumbing is the set of other tools a rep needs before a normal task is finished. Bigin has real answers for each, but each is something you connect.

The quote and the PM Surya Ghar subsidy

Bigin can produce a quote document, but through other Zoho tools that you set up. Zoho's own comparison PDF ticks the Products module for Bigin but leaves "Sales quotes" and "Price books" empty for every Bigin edition, with ticks starting only under Zoho CRM Professional. In the same table, invoices come through a free integration with Zoho Invoice and sales orders through Zoho Books. There are two routes to a document.

RouteWhich plansWhat Zoho's pages sayWhat you still build
Merge template (Zoho Writer)Zoho says all Bigin editionsPer the help article, map fields from Pipelines, Contacts and Companies, plus product rows from the Products related list. Free Writer gives 200 merge credits a month, paid Writer 1,000, one per merge. Zoho's feature page names quotes among the documents. The layout, the logo, the terms, the product rows. Zoho's pages do not mention PDF output or product photos.
Estimate through Zoho Invoice or Zoho BooksExpress and abovePer Zoho's help article, create an estimate or invoice from the record details page and share it. Only an Administrator can set up the link. Pick-list values must match in both tools.A second account, the sync, and the estimate format. The help article does not mention templates or PDFs.

Both routes are real, and a sensible fit if you already use Zoho Books. The build is yours, though, and so is the maths. Bigin's pages do not model the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, which depends on system size. Our subsidy slabs guide covers how the slabs work. Premier lists "Advanced field types", and we could not tell from the pages whether that lets you apply slab maths, so test it. Whoever builds that logic also owns keeping it right if the scheme rules change.

Watch out. A merge template fills a document from the record. It does not choose panels, set a margin or check that every rep quotes today's rates. If a rep types an old price into a field, the template prints it faithfully.

The same line on Quickest. A rep builds a proposal from a template with your logo, items, product photos and terms and conditions, with the PM Surya Ghar subsidy applied in the proposal. The admin sets a price list with margin, as described on the solar pricing calculator page, and the rep shares the proposal PDF on WhatsApp. Estimates can be made on the mobile app. Read the proposal generator page for the screens. We do not claim e-signatures or invoicing from the app, so a business that needs them in the same tool should weigh that.

WhatsApp

Bigin's WhatsApp integration keeps chats on the record, but it comes with WhatsApp's own template rule. Zoho's WhatsApp integration page says full messaging is on the paid editions, while Free only opens WhatsApp from a contact record. It says "the first message must be a WhatsApp-approved template" when your business starts the chat. After the customer replies, you can send any message, including attachments, for 24 hours, without extra conversation charges. Bulk sends often need an add-on from the Bigin marketplace. The page does not say which provider connects the number, whether you need a new number or what conversation charges apply, so ask before you budget.

For an installer, the rule bites when you send a proposal to a lead who has not messaged you in the last 24 hours. On Bigin's own description, that first send goes through an approved template that you set up.

Note. Zoho's pages say the WhatsApp integration is built for business messaging and works with a WhatsApp Business setup. Setting that up, and getting templates approved, is part of your Plumbing line. Our guide to WhatsApp templates for solar follow-up has wording to start from.

The same line on Quickest. The rep shares the proposal PDF on WhatsApp from the phone, and the team keeps saved message templates. We do not claim a WhatsApp Business API connection, a shared inbox, scheduled sends or chat history logged against the lead. Bigin's page describes chats kept on each record, and ours does not, so if a logged conversation per customer is your main need, Bigin fits that point better.

Lead sources, reports and the phone

Three smaller points can tip the choice.

  • Lead sources. Bigin's Express plan lists lead-ads integrations for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok, plus Zapier. Quickest adds and edits leads by hand and imports them in bulk from Excel. We do not claim a connection to any ad platform or lead portal. If most of your leads arrive from ads and you want them to land in the CRM untouched, that favours Bigin.
  • Reports. Bigin lists customisable dashboards on Express and a Target Meter on Premier. Quickest has a dashboard and a team report. We do not claim goal meters or forecasting.
  • The phone. Bigin's apps cover iOS and Android with call logging and a card scanner. Quickest makes estimates on Android, iOS and the web app, which suits a site visit. Neither is tested here, so try both on a rooftop with weak data.

Our lead management guide covers the channel side.

Which one is better for you

The answer depends on your team, your leads and who will do the building. These are the conditional verdicts we would give a friend.

Bigin is better for you if

  • ✓You are one to three people and your solar fields fit in Express's 10
  • ✓Your leads come from Facebook or Instagram ads and you want them to flow straight in
  • ✓You want WhatsApp chats logged against each customer
  • ✓You already run Zoho Books or Zoho Invoice and want estimates and invoices there
  • ✓You have someone who likes building fields, templates and rules
  • ✓You sell other products besides solar and want one simple CRM across them

Quickest is better for you if

  • ✓You have 3 or more people, or will within a year
  • ✓Reps should build and send a subsidy-ready proposal from a phone
  • ✓One admin-set price list with margin should drive every rep's quote
  • ✓You would rather not design fields, templates and subsidy logic yourself
  • ✓Yearly billing in rupees with a GST invoice suits your books

Where Bigin is weaker for solar

  • ✗No solar fields, subsidy or DISCOM steps on the pages we read
  • ✗Quotes need Zoho Writer or Zoho Invoice, which you build
  • ✗Free is 1 user and 500 records, and activities count as records
  • ✗A typical solar field list pushes you to Premier

Where Quickest is weaker

  • ✗Free is 1 user, with 10 proposals a month
  • ✗Pro has a 3-user minimum and yearly billing only
  • ✗No ad-platform, portal or Zoho integration claimed
  • ✗No custom fields, custom modules, e-signatures or invoicing claimed

Verdict

One to three people, fields that fit in 10, and a builder on staff: Bigin Express is cheaper and a fair choice. Three or more people, quotes that must come from the phone with the subsidy in them: Bigin's Setup Bill grows, and a solar-built CRM is worth a test. We make Quickest, so weigh this verdict accordingly and test every claim yourself.

If you also looked at Zoho CRM, our Zoho CRM comparison applies the same standard to the bigger product, and it is dated like this article.

Run the Setup Bill test in one afternoon

You can measure all three lines before you spend a rupee. Bigin has a 15-day free trial with no card, per its pricing FAQ, and Quickest has a free plan with no card. Time each step.

  1. 1

Build one solar pipeline in Bigin

Use your real stages from enquiry to net metering. Write down the minutes, and whether you can make a field compulsory before a deal moves to the next stage on the plan you picked.

  2. 2

    Add your 14 fields

Add your own field list to the deal. Note the field number at which Bigin stops you, and which plan the next field needs.

  3. 3

Import 100 real leads from Excel

Then open the admin record-storage view and note how many records 100 leads used once you log a few calls on each.

  4. 4

Make one quote for a real 5 kW enquiry

Build it through a Writer merge template or a Zoho Invoice estimate. Time it, and note whether it shows your logo, your terms and the subsidy.

  5. 5

Send it on WhatsApp to your own phone

Note whether the first message needed an approved template, and how long that took to set up.

  6. 6

Repeat steps 4 and 5 in Quickest Free

Put the same enquiry through the proposal and share it from the phone. Compare the minutes, and note anything Quickest could not do.

Add up the minutes, price your time, and put the total beside each licence. If Bigin wins on the numbers, stay. If not, you have the evidence to switch.

Moving from Bigin to Quickest, without losing leads

Moving is a data job and a habit job. Do the data job first and keep Bigin read-only until your team has used the new tool for a month. Quickest does not connect to Zoho, and we claim no integration, so everything moves through a spreadsheet.

  1. 1

    Export your records as CSV

Zoho's import and export page says records export to a .CSV file from any module. Export contacts and pipelines separately, and note which stage each lead was in.

  2. 2

    Clean the sheet in Excel

Delete dead leads, fix phone numbers, keep one row per customer. Our Excel migration guide has a column layout that imports cleanly.

  3. 3

    Import only live leads

Quickest supports bulk import from Excel. Bring in open deals first, then add older leads in a second batch if you want them.

  4. 4

    Rebuild your stages

Set Quickest's lead stages to match how you really sell. The pipeline stages guide gives a starting list.

  5. 5

Run both for a month, then set a date

Keep Bigin read-only and agree a date after which nobody opens it. Our CRM onboarding guide covers getting reps to use the new tool.

Notes, call logs and WhatsApp history may not move cleanly in a CSV, so copy the few that matter into the lead notes before you cancel.

Watch out. If you connected a WhatsApp number to Bigin, check with Zoho how to disconnect it before you cancel, and save any approved templates you still want. Zoho's page does not describe that step.

If you are still unsure what a solar CRM should do at all, start with what a solar CRM is, or use our scorecard for choosing a solar CRM.

How QuickEstimate fits

If your Setup Bill came out higher than the licence line suggested, see the same installer job on a solar-built tool. Our Quickest versus Zoho CRM page sets the two side by side with Zoho's own dated prices. It covers Zoho CRM, not Bigin, so use this article for Bigin.

  • Quickest vs Zoho CRM, a dated comparison of the two on solar jobs, with where Zoho wins stated plainly.
  • Book a demo, bring one real enquiry and your field list, and ask to see it run end to end on a phone.

We do not claim that Quickest replaces Bigin's lead-ad connections, its logged WhatsApp chats, its Zoho Books link or its custom fields. If those are your needs, stay with Bigin, or use both and write down which tool owns each customer record. Quickest is built and supported in Surat for the part of the week after the lead is yours: the site visit, the quote, the subsidy and the follow-up.

What to do this week

  1. Count your solar fields on a sheet, split into deal fields and contact fields, and compare the number with Bigin's 5, 10 and 25.
  2. Open the Bigin pricing page and the feature availability page and write down the exact plan you would need, with users. Ask Zoho for a written quote with tax shown.
  3. Run the afternoon test above with one real 5 kW lead in both tools, add up the minutes, and put your own Setup Bill beside each licence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Zoho Bigin good for a solar business in India?

Bigin is a good small-business CRM for contacts, pipelines and follow-ups, and Zoho says it is built for businesses with 1 to 20 employees. It is not built for solar. The pages we read, checked on 31 October 2026, mention no solar fields, PM Surya Ghar subsidy or DISCOM steps, so you design those yourself.

How much does Zoho Bigin cost in India?

On Zoho's Bigin pricing page, India view, checked on 31 October 2026, Express is ₹400 per user per month billed yearly or ₹550 monthly, Premier is ₹720 or ₹900, and Bigin 360 is ₹1,080 or ₹1,260. Free is one user at ₹0. Zoho adds local taxes, including GST. Confirm on the page before you buy.

Does Zoho Bigin have a free plan?

Yes. Free is for one user, with 500 records, one pipeline and 3 automations. Activities, notes and products count as records, so a busy installer can fill it quickly. Quickest's Free plan is also one user, with 10 proposals a month and no card.

Can Zoho Bigin make solar quotes or proposals?

Not natively. Zoho's own comparison PDF leaves Sales quotes empty for every Bigin edition. Its pages describe two routes: Zoho Writer merge templates, listed for all editions, and estimates through Zoho Invoice or Zoho Books on Express and above. You build the layout, and the pages do not mention subsidy maths, product photos or PDF output.

Does Zoho Bigin work with WhatsApp?

Yes, on paid plans. You can message from the contact or deal record and keep the chat history there. The first message from your business must be a WhatsApp-approved template, and free-form replies with attachments are allowed for 24 hours after the customer writes. Free only opens WhatsApp from the record.

Is Zoho Bigin or Zoho CRM better for a solar installer?

Neither is built for solar. Zoho says Bigin is simpler and cheaper, while Zoho CRM has deeper customisation, and its comparison PDF shows sales quotes starting at Zoho CRM Professional. Our dated Quickest versus Zoho CRM page applies the same standard to the bigger product.

Can I use Zoho Bigin and Quickest together?

You can run both, but we claim no integration between them, so nothing syncs. Decide which tool owns each customer record. That means entering some data twice, so test whether the extra work is worth it.

How do I move my leads from Bigin to Quickest?

Export your records from Bigin as CSV, clean the sheet in Excel, and bring live leads in with Quickest's bulk Excel import. Rebuild your stages, run both tools for a month, and keep Bigin read-only until a set date. Copy important notes by hand.

Is this comparison independent?

No. QuickEstimate makes Quickest Solar CRM, and this page says so at the top. We used only Zoho's own Bigin pages for Bigin facts, each linked and dated 31 October 2026, and we did not test Bigin ourselves.

Want to put this into practice?

Quickest Solar CRM gives you everything in this article, proposal automation, lead capture, WhatsApp follow-up, built for Indian solar EPCs.
