What Is Solar Permit Design?

A permit plan set is the drawing package an authority having jurisdiction reviews before a solar system can legally be installed. It is a compliance document first and an engineering document second: its job is to demonstrate, sheet by sheet, that the proposed system meets the code the reviewer is applying.

That makes local expectations the deciding factor. The same system in two neighbouring jurisdictions can need different sheets, different notes and different levels of detail, which is why permit design is scoped against the specific AHJ rather than to a generic template.

This scope covers US and Canada residential and commercial projects. Comment-response revisions are treated as a normal part of the workflow, not an exception — a set that comes back with reviewer comments is a stage in the process, not a failure of it.

Who It's For

Who Solar Permit Design Is For

Solar Installers

Keep crews installing instead of drafting, with plan sets prepared to the AHJ's expectations.

Solar EPCs

Absorb permit volume across multiple jurisdictions without a permanent drafting desk for it.

Residential Solar Companies

Turn signed contracts into submitted permits without the backlog that stalls installation dates.

Commercial Solar Companies

Handle commercial plan sets where the sheet count and code detail step up.

Benefits

Why Permit Sets Are Worth Outsourcing

01

Volume Without A Bottleneck

Permit drafting scales with the number of deals you close, which is exactly when your own team has least time for it.

02

Built For The Reviewing AHJ

Sets prepared against local expectations rather than a generic template that invites a comment cycle.

03

Comments Are Part Of The Process

Comment-response revisions are handled within the agreed scope, not treated as a new job.

04

Installation Dates Hold

A permit queue that keeps moving is the difference between a booked install date and a rescheduled one.

Are PE stamps provided?
PE stamping depends on state licensing coverage. Stamp availability for your jurisdiction is confirmed by Heaven Designs at quote stage.
Can sets be revised after AHJ comments?
Yes. Comment-response revisions are a normal part of the permit workflow and are handled within the agreed scope.
