Point 1: Put their roof and name on the cover
The cover page is the three seconds where the customer decides whether this document is theirs or everyone's. Give them their own house.
Three things go on the cover: the customer's full name, their site address, and a photo of their actual roof taken during the survey. Not a stock image of a panel array. Their terrace, their water tank, their neighbour's building in the background.

Fast tip. Take the roof photo as a wide horizontal shot with the customer's gate or house number visible in one corner. When they forward the PDF to family members on WhatsApp, everyone instantly knows which house this proposal belongs to.
A hypothetical example makes the effect clear. Two proposals land in a Vesu homeowner's WhatsApp on the same evening. One opens with a generic cover and the text "Solar Proposal". The other opens with his own terrace and the line "3 kW Rooftop Solar Proposal for Mr. Desai, 14 Shivalik Bungalows, Vesu, Surat". He opens the second one first, every time.
Point 2: Size the system from their actual bill
System sizing is where personalization stops being cosmetic and starts being correct. Size the system from the customer's real electricity bill and sanctioned load, not from a standard package.
Ask for the last three months of bills during the survey. Two numbers matter: average monthly units consumed (kWh) and sanctioned load in kW. A household using 350 units a month with a 5 kW sanctioned load is a genuine 3 kW candidate. Pushing them a 5 kW system because your margin is better is how you lose the deal to a competitor who did the math honestly.
The sizing rule of thumb we use: divide average monthly units by 4 to get a starting kW figure, then cap it at the sanctioned load. Then check rooftop shadow-free area, roughly 80 to 100 sq ft per kW. The customer's bill, their load, and their roof together fix the number. Note. Sanctioned load matters for net-metering approval. Most DISCOMs (Distribution Companies) will not approve a grid-tied system larger than the sanctioned load on the connection. If the customer wants more capacity, the load enhancement has to happen first, and that takes two to four weeks in most Gujarat DISCOMs.
Point 3: Name their DISCOM and net-metering tariff
Writing "as per your local electricity board rates" is a template giveaway. Name the DISCOM and the actual tariff slab instead.
For that Vesu customer, you write: "Your connection is with DGVCL (Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited). Your domestic tariff slab is approximately ₹5.50 per unit in the 200 to 400 unit band, and DGVCL's net-metering settlement credits exported units as per Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission norms." Check the current slab on the DISCOM's own site, DGVCL publishes its tariff schedule, before you quote it.
Why does this matter so much? Because the customer's savings line is built from this tariff. If you write their actual per-unit rate, the monthly savings figure stops being your claim and becomes their bill, reduced. Do this for every city you sell in. MSEDCL in Pune, BESCOM in Bengaluru, TANGEDCO in Chennai, BSES Rajdhani in Delhi. One line per proposal, two minutes of work, and your savings math becomes locally verifiable. Point 4: Show subsidy math for their category
Subsidy is the single biggest number in a residential proposal, and it changes completely by customer category. Show the math for their category, with their system size plugged in.
For residential customers under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, plus ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above, per MNRE guidelines, 2024. So a 2 kW system gets ₹60,000, and a 3 kW system gets the full ₹78,000. The subsidy is paid directly to the customer's bank account through the PM Surya Ghar National Portal after commissioning.
₹ math. A 3 kW system at ₹1.85 lakh project cost minus ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy leaves the customer paying ₹1.07 lakh. Show all three numbers on one line, cost, subsidy, net outlay. That single line does more selling than three pages of panel specifications.
Commercial customers are a different category, and personalizing here means saying so honestly. There is no central CFA for commercial rooftop systems. Instead, the proposal leads with accelerated depreciation (40% under the Income Tax Act for businesses that claim it) and GST (Goods and Services Tax) input credit where applicable. Writing "₹78,000 subsidy" in a factory owner's proposal is a trust-ending error, and it is one of the most common solar proposal mistakes we see.
Also note that subsidy eligibility requires modules from the ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers) under the Domestic Content Requirement. One line in the proposal confirming you are quoting ALMM-listed modules reassures the customer their subsidy will actually come.
Point 5: Add local proof and a budget-matched payment plan
The last point closes the two remaining doubts: "Can I trust this company?" and "Can I afford this?" Answer both with something local and something that matches the budget they told you.
Local proof means two reference installs in the customer's own city, ideally within a few kilometres. "We installed a 3 kW system at Adajan Gam in March 2026, and a 5 kW system near LP Savani Circle last month. You can call the owners or drive past." Nobody forwards a generic testimonial to their family WhatsApp group. They do forward the address of a neighbour whose roof already has panels.
The payment plan must match the budget the customer stated at the site, not your default. If they said "we can pay around ₹15,000 a month", show an EMI (Equated Monthly Instalment) option near that figure. If they said "we have funds, but want to know if a loan is cheaper", show cash versus loan side by side.
